Mailer Error : Could not instantiate mail function

Error message

This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it -> Message could not be sent
Mailer error: Could not instantiate mail function.

Solution

This kind of error means that there is a problem with your PHP mailer method and that can be for several reasons...
  • If you can send e-mails but you receive this error message after 50 or 60 e-mails successfully sent, that means you reach the server limitations.
In that case, you should ask your server limitations to your provider and adapt your Acajoom configuration to send less e-mails in more time.
  • If you can not send any e-mail and always receive this error message, that means your PHPMailFunction can not accept your e-mail. Usually it's because of a your mail configuration in Acajoom.
If you can send e-mails with Joomla (confirmation e-mails, change your password...), please make sure you use the exact same configuration in Acajoom as well and that will work.
Here is an article about the sender informations...
If you have this error using Acajoom 3.0.1, 3.0.2 or 3.0.3, please upgrade your version of Acajoom .

553 sorry, your mail was administratively denied

Error message

----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors -----
(reason: 553 sorry, your mail was administratively denied. (#5.7.1))

Solution

Most of the time, this error occurs because your sender e-mail doesn't belong to the same domain than your server itself.
Please make sure the field 'From Email' (in the 'Mail' tab) from the Acajoom configuration page is in the same domain than your own mail server.

Operation Aborted on Internet Explorer

Error message

When the Acajoom module is published on your website, you can not access to the page using the browser Internet Explorer (everything works properly using Mozilla or any other browser) and you can see the message

Internet Explorer cannot open the Internet site http://www.yourwebsite.com.

Operation Aborted

Solution

There is apparently a compatibility problem between the Joomla tooltip, Flash Player and Internet Explorer. The solution is to disable the Joomla tooltip in Acajoom.
Go on the Acajoom configuration page and turn ON the option Disable Tooltip on the tab Miscellaneous.

You are not authorized...

Error message

When you try to see the archive via the front you get this kind of error :

You are not autorized...You must log in

Solution

It seems you have a menu with the Itemid=99 and with restricted access. This blocks the Acajoom component. So, when your subscribers try to have access to the Acajoom module, they are redirected to a page with an unauthorized access.

You can try to have access to the Acajoom component with an other Itemid such as 999 for example.

First, try with this url :

http://<your_joomla>/index.php?option=com_acajoom&Itemid=99

And then, with this one :

http://<your_joomla>/index.php?option=com_acajoom&Itemid=999

To solve it to the long term, you have to change the Itemid to 999. All new newsletters will have the Itemid=999

To change it, go to the menu Components > Acajoom > Configuration.  Click on the tab Miscellaneous.

MySQL server has gone away

Error message

When you send a Newsletter using the manual send process, after some time you can see this error :

MySQL server has gone away SQL=REPLACE INTO `jos_acajoom_stats_details` ( `mailing_id`, `subscriber_id`, `sentdate`, `html` ) VALUES (...

Solution

The connection to your MySQL server has been lost during the send process because the send process takes too long and your host doesn't allow the connection to be opened so long.

That will only avoid Acajoom to add the statistics into your statistics table but won't stop the send process.

Using the free version of Acajoom, the only way to solve the problem is to increase the MySQL time out (on your server or ask to your provider).

With one of our commercial version, you should not have this problem if you don't send more than 200 e-mails per batch (since Acajoom 3.0.5). If you still have this problem, please configure your manual send process to reduce the number of e-mails sent with per batch.
