Text only Templates - 2008/02/24 02:25 I dont know if its been discussed but thought I would mention that I think it would be cool to have the ability to make and save on a list a text only template since it seems the auto made one needs reworking.. Thanks! Love this extension!

Re:Text only Templates - 2008/02/24 19:47 If you don't enter anything in the TEXT only area, Acajoom will automatically generate the text version of your message from the HTML Version.

The problem is the fact that Acajoom does that only if you have no text in this area and as Acajoom loads the text version of your message each time you save and open your Newsletter, you have to delete the content in the TEXT only area each time...
I'm not sure I'm clear...

Anyway, in a near future, Acajoom will only generate the text version when you send the Newsletter of if you click on a special button. I think it's better than a text template. It's my opinion... but let me know what you think about? An other user already told me about a TEXT template so maybe there is a need for that?
Please check our official documentation and existing replies before posting on our forum!

Best Regards,
Adrien

Re:Text only Templates - 2008/05/30 09:15 Hi Adrien, in regard to the text only template, I am not sure I understand what you guys are going to do with it, but I would not eliminate it or make it so it generates automatically.

The reason is that it would be nice to be able to create a text only template for each newsletter (or list). In fact, this has been a peeve of mine for some time.

In the Acajoom newsletters I currently manage, the automatic text template pull in a bunch of CSS instead of the plain text from the Newsletter (as you can see from the attached image) which I have to delete and then I insert a pre-made text only template where I can create an ASCII header and issue number and so forth.

I believe that at a minimum, Acajoom should have a text template option in the List template area (where currently there is only the HTML template) and save you guys a bunch of programming and logic trying to extract text from the HTML version.

Re:Text only Templates - 2008/05/30 09:16 Looks like my image was too large for the forum. Here is what my text template looks like (just the beginning):

.headerTop {
BORDER-TOP: #000000 0px solid; BORDER-BOTTOM: #ffffff 1px solid; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #ffcc66; TEXT-ALIGN: center
}
.adminText {
FONT-SIZE: 10px; COLOR: #996600; LINE-HEIGHT: 200%; FONT-FAMILY: verdana; TEXT-DECORATION: none
}
.headerBar {
BORDER-TOP: #333333 0px solid; BORDER-BOTTOM: #ffffff 10px solid; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #ffffff
}
.title {
FONT-WEIGHT: bold; FONT-SIZE: 20px; COLOR: #cc6600; LINE-HEIGHT: 110%; FONT-FAMILY: arial
}

Re:Text only Templates - 2008/05/30 20:34 Hello mickey,

I developed a little hack for your feature :
File Attachment:
File name: text_only_template.gz
File size:16848 bytes

1. Make a backup of your table jos_acajoom_lists (structure + data)
2. Edit your table by executing this SQL query :
ALTER TABLE `jos_acajoom_lists` ADD `layout_text_only` TEXT NOT NULL AFTER `layout` ;

3. Download the file, extract the files and copy them in the appropriate folders:
<joomla>/administrator/components/com_acajoom/lists.acajoom.html.php
<joomla>/administrator/components/com_acajoom/lists.acajoom.php
<joomla>/administrator/components/com_acajoom/classes/class.lists.php
<joomla>/administrator/components/com_acajoom/classes/class.mailing.php

I only tested for a newsletter list, and it works fine. But, I don't know for the other kind of lists. Maybe there's some bugs. Just be careful.

So, you should be able to create a HTML template and Text-Only template.

In your last post, you paste a sample of your CSS for your text template.
I'm not sure to understand but if you use a text template, you can't insert CSS. Otherwise, it's a HTML text.
*** Please, read our official documentation before posting. Thank you ***

Adrian, my suggestions for text only are:
1. Have the standard text only template include the url link for the "read more..."s. After all, one of the most important aspects of an email newsletter is to drive traffic back to the site. And, since you are lncluding links for subscription, clearly it is possible to do it for readmore.

2. In the editor, populate the text only window so I can see it and edit it; I realize I can cut and paste in, but it would be nice if it was there and I could see what the system is planning to send without my intervention. I do like the idea of a text only template (being discussed in this thread.) I, for example, use dashees to separate sections when I am limited to text only. Like this:

It would be nice if they were always there for me via editing up a template.
