Licensing question

Hi, I would like to use Acajoom Free as a base component for adding some features that my client requires. Am I free to do that?

Re: Licensing question

Hi,

do you mean that you want to take Acajoom free version and change it to better suits the needs of your client?

Our license agreement says the following:

Certain components of the Joobi Software, and third party open source programs included with the Joobi Software, have been or may be made available by Joobi on its web site (collectively the “Open-Sourced Components”). You may modify or replace only these Open-Sourced Components; provided that: (i) the resultant modified Joobi Software is used, in place of the unmodified Joobi Software, on a single Joobi-labeled computer; and (ii) you otherwise comply with the terms of this License and any applicable licensing terms governing use of the Open-Sourced Components. Joobi is not obligated to provide any maintenance, technical or other support for the resultant modified Joobi Software.

Except as and only to the extent expressly permitted in this License or by applicable law, you may not copy, decompile, reverse engineer, disassemble, modify, or create derivative works of the Joobi Software or any part thereof.

So, the short answer would be (in case you mean what I asked you in my first question): No, you are not permitted that unless you have our explicit permission to do that

Re: Licensing question

And if I buy the Acajoom Plus? Will I be able to do changes to the code so that the component will have some more features that my client needs?

Re: Licensing question

This license agreement is valid for all versions of Acajoom (Free, Plus and Pro).

What features do you require additional for your client?

Re: Licensing question

Well, lots of them. They want integration of their standalone backend system with their site (that we built using Joomla and integration is done via webservices) and lots of custom features for their newsletter. It doesn't really matter. Too bad we can't go with your component, I'll have to go to Yanc in this case.
