receiving spam

Hi

I've just started receiving spam subscribers. Presumably the confirmation email is the best way to stop automatic spam subsribers, but wondered if there was any other way to stop this (eg having to enter scrambled letters when you subscribe)?

thanks

Re: receiving spam

Hi,

there is no direct captch support. You can generate subscription form HTML code (in Pro version) and use this code in for example ChronoContacts component to create new subscription form with captcha code

Re: receiving spam

thanks. If I activate the confirmation email, will this tend to stop most spam, or can spammers even get past the hurdle of clicking the confirm URL in the confirm email to get through?

Re: receiving spam

Hi

If could just clarify as well, that when someone has not yet confirmed their subscription then they are noted as not confirmed but still part of whatever lists. If you send a mailing to that list, presumably they won't receive anything until they are confirmed?

thanks

Re: receiving spam

Hi,

I don't believe that spammers would actually read confirmation emails. This is more work for them and spammers like things to be automated.

Also, if you require confirmation and user is not confirmed he won't receive newsletter when it will be sent

Re: receiving spam

Is any thing being done about this I've tested the free version but there's no way I'm going to buy the pro version unless the developers address the lack of a captcha or challenge question as I've just deleted over a 100 fake signups.

Are there any plans to upgrade this component before I dump it?

Re: receiving spam

I believe I’ve experienced the same thing if I understand what’s being discussed here.  Within the last week, I’ve had several hundred new ‘subscribers’ to my Acajoom Plus list, all with GMail addresses.  The names are all common words or phrases, (some pornographic), and the addresses all appear to be random or cryptic series of letters and numbers @gmail.com.  I would like to ask two questions about this.

First, I’ve installed the Bad Behaviour bot mentioned above.  Will that have any adverse performance effect on Acajoom or any other parts of Joomla?

Second, if I change my Acajoom configuration to require email confirmation, will all 1,100+ of my known, good, subscribers receive any kind of automatic notice requiring confirmation.  I would not want that as I know all those addresses are good.  Currently all my ‘good’ subscribers show a check mark in the Confirmed column.

Thanks for the help.

Re: receiving spam

Hi,

since all of your 'good' subscribers are confirmed already, they wont receive any automatic confirmation emails. You can test this behavior on our test site

Re: receiving spam

Thank you for the quick reply.

I took your suggestion and tested the feature on your test site.  I entered one of my emails via the backend as confirmed.  Then using the front end I entered another.  It got the confirmation email but my previously confirmed address did not.

Now I just need to find where to create the text for the confirmation email and I'll change the configuration.

Thanks.

Re: receiving spam

You have to configure confirmation email content in list definition. Just edit existing list and you will see confirmation email template
